The only disadvantage of the free edtion compared to its retailed counterpart is that it lacks certain other features for enhanced protection. In the retailed version, where you have to buy AVG Anti-Virus, you are entitled with an extra set of features that adds more protection. For instance, in the Free Edition there is no Firewall component but in the retailed version there is.
