Where can I find pc games that I can download into my Playstation 3?

I would like to download pc games from my computer onto my playstation 3

Alas, you cannot play windows pc games on your ps3. These only work in windows or on a windows emulation layer like Wine or VMWare. And they don’t make those for ps3.*

What you can do is play linux games but

Alas, you can’t use the 3d graphics acceleration because it’s locked out by the hypervisor under linux.

Again, the game won’t work in hardware acceleration.

One good place to start would be Quake 2. The ps3 can run Quake 2 very well. Make sure the resolution doesn’t exceed 960×720 cause it runs in SDL and can’t run higher than that for some reason. You’ll have to start with the demo, if you can get a quake 2 disc you can play quake 2 with your ps3 very well. Works with the sixaxis too.

One game I like playing on my ps3 is Liquid War. It runs faster on my ps3 than on my pc, thanks to the ps3’s blindingly-fast cpu’s. It’s a simple rts where you are in charge of a liquid at war with other liquids.

You can run Doom on ps3 too. And Heretic, and Hexen. As long as they run in sdl rather than opengl. There are many windows games that have ports for converting them to linux, unfortunately most of them are hardware-accelerated.

* You can run VMWare on ps3, and use that to boot windows from a disc, as long as it’s XP or earlier – but it only has the 256mb of system RAM to work with, after what the ps3 OS takes, that’s about 212 mb for linux, and running VMWare leaves less than 200mb of RAM for windows to work with. XP does not work well like that. Wine is a great windows compatibility layer but only works on Intel and AMD processors, not the PowerPC core found in ps3’s and Macs.
